Zvezdochka Shiprepair Centre delivered the modernised Sindurakshak diesel electric submarine of Type 877EKM (NATO code name: "Kilo") to the Indian Navy. The submarine was handed over on 26 January, which is the Republic Day, the national holiday of the Republic of India. The modernised submarine has the advanced Club-S missile system. More than ten systems of Indian and foreign origin are installed on board, including the Ushus sonar system and SCS-MK-2 radio system. Also in the course of modernisation, the cooling systems are modified, the Porpoise radio set is installed and other operations are conducted to improve the quality and safety of combat characteristics.

Two 300-ton shield tanks were placed into the reactor compartment of production and operation unit under the supervision of the customer (Rosenergoatom Concern). Each shield tank is used as a basement under reactor, a shielding and a cooling circuit.

In the afternoon on 24 January, the tow rope broken and Charlene Hunt tug could not start up the tug, most likely due to bad weather and no crew on board the Lyubov Orlova vessel. Canadian maritime authorities refused to have something to do with uncontrolled vessel and stated that there was nothing to worry about because the vessel was out of Canadian waters and posed no threat to navigation or environment, that the vessel moves to the scrapping point without fuel, oil and any hazardous materials on board as well as without crew.
