On June 23, the research and survey vessel Mikhail Somov owned by the Northern Territorial Administration for Hydrometeorological and Environmental Monitoring left Arkhangelsk to provide polar stations with vital cargoes. This was reported by the
press-office of the Institution.
Within two months, food, POL and other supplies will be delivered to hard-to-reach stations of the Northern Territorial Administration for Hydrometeorological and Environmental Monitoring located on coast and islands of the White, Barents and Kara Seas. In total, 39 hard-to-reach stations are to be provided with supplies.
In addition to logistics support, specialists will be delivered, software of automated weather systems and stations will be updated and power equipment will be repaired at hard-to-reach station during voyage. Advanced VSAT satellite communication stations will be commissioned by specialists of the Northern Territorial Administration for Hydrometeorological and Environmental Monitoring in weather stations-2 "Kolguyev Severny" and "Malye Karmakuly".
During voyage of the research and survey vessel Mikhail Somov, construction materials and worker teams will be delivered to repair service buildings of weather stations-2 "Raznavolok", "Gridino", "Kanin Nos", "Severny Kolguyev", "Bely Nos" and "Sopochnaya Karta".

Several expeditions will be conducted on board research and survey vessel Mikhail Somov. Among scientists are Ildar Sharafutdinov, ornithologist of the Institute of Environmental Sciences and historians of the Arctic Museum and Exhibition Center.
The voyage will be attended by Andrey Parshin, photographer from Arkhangelsk who will prepare a series of photo-reports on work progress on board the research and survey vessel Mikhail Somov. He will be joined by Vera Kostamo, the Russia Today reporter, on Dikson Island.
The research and survey vessel Mikhail Somov is completely prepared for voyage. The vessel has a full crew complement, has undergone complete overhaul and been surveyed by the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) for the next 5 years. The research and survey vessel Mikhail Somov is to arrive in Arkhangelsk at the end of August.
