No repair activities were underway on the freezer trawler when the fire started, despite the ship had arrived to Murmansk and was docked especially for repair.
As preliminary reported, there was a short circuit that caused the fire on board m/v Kamchatskiy Losos in the port of Murmansk, according to
TASS with the reference to a source in the port services.
It was specifically noticed that no repair activities were underway on the freezer trawler when the fire started, despite the ship had arrived to Murmansk and was docked especially for repair.
The fire covered 200 sqm; there were no casualties or an oil spillage threat as ships are normally docked free of fuel.
It is notable that it was the second fire happened recently in the port of Murmansk: on 21 November 2017, a fire started on trawler Odysseus-1 during welding operations. There were no casualties.
