Dubai, UAE: The fourth annual The Maritime Standard Tanker Conference, which is taking place on Tuesday 22nd October at The Atlantis, the Palm, in Dubai, will be notable for the quality and status of the speakers right from the outset.
Keynote speakers, as well as speakers for the opening first session in the morning, have now been confirmed. These presentations will set the standard for what promises to be an enlightening day of discussion and debate around the future of the tanker shipping business.

The conference will get underway by hearing from two keynote speakers, Captain Abdulkareem Al Masabi, Chief Executive of ADNOC Logistics and Services, and Abdulla Bin Damithan, Chief Commercial Officer of DP World. Captain Abdulkareem will focus on some of the key issues facing shipowners in the tanker sector and how the integration of such operations with other logistics and service functions can add value across the supply chain. Bin Damithan’s keynote will include a review of the petrochemical trades and how servicing this business is a core component of the UAE maritime cluster.

Session 1 will sustain the quality of the event and will concentrate on how tanker owners and operators can best adapt to fast moving market conditions. Speakers confirmed for this part of the conference include Ali Shehab, acting Chief Executive of Kuwait Oil Tanker Company (KOTC); Michael Jorgensen, Chief Financial Officer and Acting CEO of Oman Shipping Company, and Captain Anoop Kumar Sharma, Chairman and Managing Director, Shipping Corporation of India. These speakers will reflect on the opportunities, and challenges shaping regional trade prospects in the Middle East region in the short and medium term, and how tanker service providers can help support national economic strategies. As well as crude oil tanker operations, there will be an assessment of prospects for the product and chemical tanker sectors, the impact of Indian economic growth for the regional tanker market and how tanker shipping can efficiently transition to a carbon neutral future.

Aimed at influential decision makers and opinion formers in the tanker shipping and related business sectors, the one-day Conference will highlight regional and global trends in the crude, products and chemicals trades. This year there will also be coverage of several new areas, including the bunker trades and petrochemical markets. The majority of the leading owners and operators in the regional tanker trades will be present in the audience with over 300 delegates expected to attend.

Clive Woodbridge, conference editor, says, “We are delighted to have such a prestigious, elite panel of speakers in these first two sessions. Each of them are high status leaders in their fields. They will I am sure provide unique insights into the issues facing tanker shipping today and will help delegates gain a clearer picture as to what the future holds.”

It is delivered fortnightly, on the 1st and 15th of every month, and provides accurate, up-to-date news about the market. Over the past few years the publication has built up the largest readership of any shipping-related online newsletter in the Middle East and the Indian Subcontinent. It is also gaining popularity in other major shipping hubs, including Oslo, Hamburg, Singapore, London and Greece.

The newsletter includes news and analysis from the shipping and ports industries and related sectors in the Middle East and the Indian Subcontinent. Topics that are covered include tanker shipping, container operations, dry and liquid bulk trades, ro-ro, and cruise shipping. In addition, there is up to date information about regional terminal operations; port development; classification; ship repair and conversion; shipbuilding; ship agency; finance and insurance; maritime law; and transportation & logistics. The newsletter, which celebrated the publication of its 100th edition in 2018, regularly carries exclusives, analysis and interviews with top executives.

Towards the end of 2018 TMS launched a special Tabloid section of the newsletter. This includes news of recent and forthcoming events, information about the activities of the industry’s ‘movers and shakers’, recent appointments and other personality-led news.

The Maritime Standard also publishes the highly successful TMS UAE Yearbook. The fourth volume covering 2019/20 was launched in July 2019 at Norshipping in Norway. Around 5000 copies are printed and distributed worldwide and have a high profile at other partner maritime events, such as Posidonia, SMM, Dubai International Boat Show, Offshore Arabia and many more. The UAE’s Federal Transport Authority also takes the Yearbook with them to the events that they take part in and host over the year, as well as having copies on display at its headquarters in Abu Dhabi.

Covering key developments across the country’s maritime sector, the annual publication aims to publicise the UAE’s achievements both locally and internationally, through in-depth articles, researched first-hand. These cover all the major sectors of the shipping, ports and maritime industry in the UAE. The articles, on terminals, shipping companies, shipyards, maritime law firms, classification, regulators and inland transport firms, among others, have been well received by the industry as a year-round reference point. The Maritime Standard UAE Yearbook is a must-read publication for everyone interested in UAE maritime issues, and the latest edition can be downloaded by clicking on the link above.

Awards
The Maritime Standard Awards are the only Awards of their kind that represent all sectors within the maritime and shipping industries, a factor that has been evident since their inception. They are in particular the only Awards where all the major shipowners and operators from across the region are represented, something that TMS is extremely proud of.

The Awards are now firmly positioned as one of the world's leading shipping and maritime Awards gala dinners and are the premier event of their kind in the region. All of the five events to date have been held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, and have each attracted close to 700 of the region's elite shipping and maritime professionals, as well as a number of leading figures from overseas. These guests have come from a variety of industry segments, ranging from ports and terminal operators to ship owners and managers. Top executives from the worlds of maritime law and finance, classification, ship building and repair and maritime education and training are also in attendance, creating unrivalled networking opportunities.

All of the events have had distinguished master of ceremonies. Past MCs have included Alastair Campbell, Ruud Gullit, Jim Clancy, Lara Dutta and Tim Wilcox. The 2019 event will be hosted by the well known entertainer and impressionist, Jon Culshaw.
